Zamtel fuels Mount Meru

Zamtel has today announced the signing of a partnership with leading petroleum company Mount Meru for the use of Digital Mobile Payment platforms ZamPay and Zamtel Kwacha.

The partnership will see all Zamtel mobile money customers paying for fuel using Zamtel Kwacha through a short code *344# and ZamPay a QR code based platform at all Mount Meru service stations across the country.
Currently Mount Meru has 45 service stations around the country making it the third biggest oil Marketing Company in the country.

The partnership with Mount Meru underscores Zamtel’s commitment to the development of a cashless society and the enhancement of the mobile wallet experience for consumers across the country.

Announcing the partnership, Zamtel Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations Reuben Kamanga said the coming on board of Mount Meru will increase payment options for consumers

Mr Kamanga said the use of digital payment platforms such as Zamtel Kwacha and ZamPay are critical in eliminating the risks associated with handling physical cash.

“As Zamtel, we are very excited to welcome Mount Meru Group on our ever-growing list of Merchants on ZamPay and Zamtel Kwacha. Through this, we are confident of transforming the lives of the motorists as we champion our journey of being a prime driver of digital transformation in Zambia, and especially that the ZamPay can be used across all networks.,” Mr. Kamanga said.

He encouraged Zambians to buy a Zamtel sim card and activate their Zamtel Kwacha and ZamPay wallets for them to enjoy the service.
Commenting on the partnership, Mount Meru Head of Retail Mr. Bhavesh Bhai said the partnership is significant as it will eliminate cash handling risks across its retail chain.

“As Mount Meru we are excited with this partnership, as our retail stations have faced challenges with handling cash due to high risks associated with cash.  Depositing cash to banks is another area that we have faced as a business and the coming in of Zamtel Kwacha and ZamPay will eliminate this challenge.”

He added, “We want to encourage our customers on all different networks to download the ZamPay App and also subscribe to Zamtel Kwacha in order for them to enjoy this exciting service.”
