Whatsapp Voice Calls Now Available To All, Forget Invites

whatsapp-update-feature

Last week we told you Whatsapp had made its voice call feature open to some users and others could get it too by receiving a call from someone who had the feature already but now good news is here: you don’t need the invite.

Whatsapp’s new call feature is available on its 2.12.5 version from the Google Play Store so get updating to make those calls.

One you update the app, your call feature will now not be the regular calls made using your airtime credit, but through the app itself using your data bundle or WiFi connection.

The new menu now has Calls, Chats and Contacts:

Calls – shows your call logs made with Whatsapp and the time.

Chats– shows your recent messages using the app.

Contacts  – shows all your contacts from your phonebook that have the Whatsapp app.

This new feature has been received with excitement among Whatsapp users in Zambia as the cost of  normal call rates are much higher than the amount of their data bundle they’d spend on this.

To download the updated Whatsapp app, please click here. However this is an APK installer so please change your phone settings to accept installations from ‘unknown sources’ in your settings menu by ticking it. This will allow the new update to be successfully installed and run on your phone without being blocked.

It is only available for Android right now but we expect it on iOS devices in the next few weeks. You know how Apple is strict about third-party apps and updates to them *rolls eyes*.
