Snapchat Gets Rid of ‘Best Friends’, And Twitter Goes Crazy!
Yesterday Snapchat rolled out a new feature to their app called ‘Discover’ that lets users have access to the latest news around the world. According to the Snapchat blog , “Snapchat Discover is a new way to explore Stories from different editorial teams. It’s the result of collaboration with world-class leaders in media to build a storytelling format that puts the narrative first. This is not social media. Social media companies tell us what to read based on what’s most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what’s important.”
So the update will only show you legit information about the news going on at the moment. So far CNN and ESPN are listed among the news channels on discover. This is a shift from the old version that was basically just for sharing quick ‘snaps’ of users or messages to other users that disappear after being long pressed. The news items will disappear after 24 hours, which is not surprising as Snapchat is well, all about snippets.
In addition to the news feature. ‘Discover’, Snapchat has also enabled access to users to add other users by scanning a really funky looking barcode. It has the official Snapchat logo, but with holes in it. To add someone you simply face your snapchat camera over that logo and that’s it, the camera will scan it and add the person.
Snapchat went trending on Twitter after it removed the ‘Best Friends‘ feature, meaning you’re not able to see which users your friends ‘snap’ with the most. Most of the users that complained were talking about how relationships would be affected. I bet cheaters are doing the moonwalk for this feature right now!
What if they roll out another update that will show who you’ve been snapping recently? We expect assault charges in the snapchat community from jealous partners pouring in. Just kidding. No, really.
