A hands-on review of the Infinix Zero 5

For the past month I was honoured to check out the latest Infinix Zero 5 and see if it’s worth the hype and the jury’s out, IT IS!

Before you say ‘how does she say that in the first sentence?’ here’s how I came to that verdict…

The unboxing of the Infinix Zero 5 which I filmed here was exciting starting from the packaging itself, and I knew this was going to be fun. The phone has a very premium look and feel, but I must say it is a slightly heavier phone than some of its brothers from another mother stream like the Infinix Hot 4. However, you get used to the weight in a few days.

Setting it up is like any Android phone, sign in with your Gmail account, restore apps and data and you’re good to go. It took me less than 5 minutes connected to steady WiFi. You can still set it up with logging in to your accounts if you prefer, but it will be harder for you to get your contacts or even access the Google Play Store.

The biggest things people ask about are storage, camera quality, battery life, operating system, SIM type and microSD card slots so here are the responses to those queries about the Infinix Zero 5:

Storage: the Infinix Zero 5 comes with 6GB RAM and while some of it is used to store standard phone system apps, you’ll still have enough space left over for your own stuff on there. You could add extra storage of up to 128GB using a microSD card (memory card).

Camera Quality: They (think millenials) say if you don’t take a picture of something it didn’t happen or you didn’t have it.

The Infinix Zero 5 snappers boast some high quality. I took a few pics but don’t mind what’s in them, just how clear they look, ok?

Selfie? This is what 16MP on the Infinix Zero 5 gives you (the first was outdoors and the second indoors):

Battery life: at 4350mAh you’ll get a full day’s worth of mobile usage with your data turned on. I could get to bed at around 11pm with between 30 – 36% battery life left over. My day’s usage comprises heavy social media use of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and making phone calls. The phone comes with XPower for efficient battery utilization and XCharge for faster charging.

Operating System: Infinix Zero 5 runs on Android 7 and there was an update pending the past few days that I didn’t have time to download, but that shows that you won’t get stuck with old, lagging software either on this phone.

SIM type: The dual SIM Infinix Zero 5 takes two microSIMs.

MicroSD card: You could expand your storage to 128GB.

So what are the Pros and Cons?

Pros: Bright colours on screen, good camera, lots of RAM so great performance using multiple apps at once.

Cons: The size and weight will be uncomfortable at first. The phone does come with a clear silicon cover that should improve your grip on it.
