MultiChoice Lauds AMVCA Zambian Nominees

MultiChoice has congratulated 7 Zambian filmmakers on their nomination for the 8th edition of Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) scheduled to take place in Nigeria.

AMVCA is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice recognising outstanding achievements in film and television. This year’s AMVCA ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 14, in Lagos.

Speaking when MultiChoice Zambia hosted nominees in Lusaka, Chris Puta, MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF)Academy Director Southern Region, MultiChoice Zambia said:We are very excited that Zambian productions have been nominated for these awards and this is a great testament to how our film and television industry has now grown beyond our Zambian borders”.

We have taken a keen interest in developing talent and we have done it for years through our Corporate Social Investment initiative MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTFAcademy. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to supporting film and television industries and we have given young Africans the chance to hone their television and film production skills through a world-class training programme,” remarked Puta.

Zambia’s renowned creative talents, David Kazadi earned a nomination in the Best Movie Southern Africa category through his Black Dollar movie and Paul S Wilo was nominated under the same category for Maria Kristu‘s production.

Mwaka Nakweti Butuku was nominated in the Best Television Series Drama or Comedy category whilst in the Best MultiChoice Talent Factory category, Masuzyo Mwale, Cosmas Ngandwe, Abel Ngoma and Edward Sakala got nominated for their Nyau production.

Speaking at the same function, Elvis Nkandu, Minister of Sports, Youth and Art in a speech read on his behalf by Kangwa Chileshe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry said the government was impressed with the nominees which demonstrated the growth of film and television in Zambia.

Supporting film and television production is at the heart of the government’s efforts to promote talent and filmmaking. The nominations for Zambians at the 8th edition of the AMVCAs ceremony showcase the potential and remarkable range of great talent by artists that we have in Zambia, and as the government, we are proud of this feat.”

 

Government is happy that MultiChoice has been at the forefront of supporting young talent and this has encouraged the production of filmmaking which has empowered many citizens,” said Mr Nkandu.

He added: “I wish all the Zambia nominees all the best and I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to each one of you”.

Voting for the 8th AMVCAs opened at 23:00 CAT on Saturday, 19 March 2022 and will close at 23:00 CAT on Friday, 29 April 2022.

Meanwhile highlighting on content, Chikombo Handahu, Head of Marketing, MultiChoice Zambia said: “We have new local content coming to Zambezi Magic this year with new seasons of Mpali and Zuba and the new shows which include King Buga, Sanko and My Family Wahala”.

“MultiChoice is also excited to announce that all the 64 games of the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be live only on SuperSport,” he concluded.
