MTN Zambia launches Dandy & Rio smartphones to increase digital inclusion

Mobile operator, MTN Zambia has announced the launch of two affordable 3G and 4G smartphones dubbed Dandy and Rio aimed at bridging the digital divide and deepen digital inclusion in the country.

MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bart Hofker said, “the Dandy and Rio smartphones we are introducing today will provide our customers an easy and convenient way to use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, stream YouTube videos, send emails and access to all applications available on the android Play Store.”

Mr. Hofker also said the introduction of these new products on the Zambian market will add value to the business environment in the country and improve the quality of life for all Zambians.

He said, “apart from providing our customers with a superior customer experience at an amazingly low price, the Dandy and Rio smartphones are tools that we are using to bridge the digital divide in our society by deepening digital inclusion. Through the affordability of these new smartphones, we ensure that the ordinary Zambian can have access to digital services, and no one will be left behind on this journey of digital transformation.”

Speaking when he officiated at the launch, Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) Director General, Mr. Patrick Mutimushi said, “The 2018 National ICT Survey revealed that although penetration and usage of digital products has increased, a large portion of the population are not taking full advantage of the benefits of digital products. This is why as a regulator of the ICT sector in Zambia, we are pleased to see such strides being made by industry leaders like MTN Zambia.”
