MTN Zambia launches 2019’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care
MTN Zambia has launched its annual staff volunteer program; 21 Days of Yéllo Care. The campaign will run from 1st to 21st June 2019 with the theme “Creating a Brighter Future for our Youth.”
The 2019 21 Days of Yéllo Care initiative will see MTN Zambia staff provide support in eradicating solid waste in compounds and donate various school reading materials to deserving schools in two towns. Staff will also provide support to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security by volunteering to the organising team of the World against Child Labor day that will be commemorated on the 12 June 2019.
Speaking during the launch, MTN Zambia Corporate Services General Manager, Mrs. Mwenzi Mulenga thanked supporting partners including the Government of The Republic of Zambia for their support and mentioned that MTN Zambia, through the 21 days of Y’ello care, will continue to form strategic partnerships and embark on initiatives that place great value on the welfare of communities.
“Zambia is no exception to the impact of irresponsible waste disposal and we can no longer identify it as a problem to tackle in the future,” she said. “Our partnership with the Manja Pamodzi initiative is in line with MTN Zambia’s vision to have an inclusive society where communities benefit from their resources and opportunities. With more than 700 beneficiaries, we were encouraged to help empower more youths in creating wealth from waste”.
“Sanitation and hygiene are the cornerstones of a thriving community and nation at large. Any efforts to instill a culture of responsible and sustainable waste management will always have our support. It is in the spirit of preserving our country’s environment that we are delighted to join hands in mitigating the impact of indiscriminate waste disposal”.
Mrs. Mulenga also urged MTN Zambia employees to play and active role in the 21 days of Y’ello care as it directly impacts the environment where MTN Zambia operates in.
“I encourage and commend our MTN Zambia staff to continue taking a keen interest in the welfare of the communities where MTN Zambia operates. This is a spirit of inclusiveness that will hold communities together and foster a better environment for the work we do,” she added.
Manja Pamodzi is an initiative funded by Zambian Breweries under better world project with the focus of bringing awareness to good waste management practices, recycling and separation of waste through various communication platforms.
