MTN Mobile Money supports Lusaka Union of Marketeers Cooperative in construction of a new market
Mobile Operator technology Company, MTN Mobile Money and Lusaka Union of Marketeers Cooperative (“LUMC”), have announced the launch of a new digital payment system aimed at helping with constructing a new market by collecting K1 from each marketer everyday dubbed Power of K1.
The first-of-a-kind feature entails that marketeers can now contribute K1 everyday using mobile money to go towards the construction of a market near the Olympic Youth Development Centre on Great North Road in Lusaka.
Speaking during a media briefing, MTN Mobile Money Managing Director, Mr Komba Malukutila stated that, “we have donated 10 Mobile Money Kiosks, K25,000 grant, a computer server to support the payment system and have facilitated the easy purchase of mobile phones under flexible terms to enable the LUMC membership have easy access to MTN Mobile Money”.
Mr. Malukutila further said that, “As MTN Mobile Money, we are continuously looking for new and innovative ways to offer convenience to our customers, because we see a tremendous growth opportunity in the use of mobile money. The adoption of mobile money payments is growing globally and through our partnership with Lusaka Union of Marketeers Corporative, we believe that we will be able to reach a wider audience including small businesses and farmers that make a significant contribution in the development of our economy.”
“Our K1 a day initiative is a secure payment platform that is designed to cater for all marketeers from 68 markets in Zambia and will enhance the financial inclusion ecosystem by adding payments whilst enhancing customer experience through an expeditious payment process” said Mr Malukutila.
He further highlighted that MTN Mobile Money is excited to be at the forefront of the digital payment system and its partnership with Lusaka Union of Marketeers bears further testament to this.
