The 5 Things To Consider Before Buying a TV

You finally want to get rid of that brown box you call a TV, but don’t know how to go about buying another. Here are some tips to make the whole process easier.

1. How much your budget is: If you’re buying the TV for cash, have a budget for it, obviously. You don’t want to remain strapped for cash. By the way, TVs these days cost anywhere between K1,500 and K50,000.

2. Where you’ll put it: The space that it will occupy has to be practical. Most Zambians have their TVs in the living/sitting room so make sure there is already a spot for it. Also consider if it needs a stand or if it will have to be hung on a wall.

3. What type of TV it is: Are you buying a Plasma, LCD, LED, OLED, HD (high definition) or UHD (ultra high definition) TV? The price of the TV is usually determined by what type of features, especially  screen resolution, that it has. Check with your seller about the different options you have. Test the view on each. Many TV sellers have samples switched on in store for customers to see what the resolution is like. Budget is always key here so buy what you can afford. However, these days buying a smart TV that can even connect to the internet is everything!

4. Bigger IS better:  If you’re buying a TV for your personal use, go for something above 32 inches. If it will be for public use e.g in your TV area in the house, stretch to over 50 inches, regardless of what type of TV you decide on. It just makes it more convenient for a large group of people to watch, especially if your TV area is large.

5. Check the sound quality: The TV you settle for may have a large beautiful screen and a very sexy steel grey finish, very modern, but does it deliver? Check the audio output before you buy it. Is it loud enough for you or will you need to spend more money on buying a home theater system? Consider that for a moment before making your final decision.

Lastly here’s an extra tip  Warranty: The problem with electronics regardless of what type they are is sometimes they may fail to work right. Make sure the seller has a warranty that allows you to return your faulty TV within a period of time, or that allows you to get it fixed for free incase of slight damages you may make to it. Other sellers will actually just swap it for another if they have the TVs in stock.
