The Techtrends ‘Best Smartphones of 2014’ List
The year’s almost up and here are the phones we think deserve attention as the best flagships of 2014.
The beautiful phablet has been a step up for Samsung. The Galaxy Note 4 is a phone every working person should consider owning. It’s large stylus friendly screen is big enough for you to view your work files, and when on lunch break, watch a movie or play a game on its 5.7” Quad HD Super AMOLED screen with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. It runs on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 2.7GHz Quad Core Processor while iPhone has an Apple A8 chipset with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone processor.
It has a 3GB RAM + 32GB Internal memory and can handle microSD cards of up to 128GB. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a 16 MP rear camera and 3.2 MP front camera so yes your pictures will come out great.
Samsung also added fast charging abilities to the phone’s 3220mAh battery, by up to 30% faster than other Galaxy range phones.
Some of the main features of this smartphone are; at 5.5 inches, the iPhone 6 Plus packs a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution in its screen, with dimensions of 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 mm. It runs on an Apple A8 chipset with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone processor. The cameras are; an 8MP rear camera with dual focus and an LED flash and a 1.2MP front camera. The battery size is 1810 mAh.
The 5.5 inch LG G3 runs on a QuadHD Snapdragon 801 processor on Android 4.4 (KitKat), with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. It has a QHD screen, which is one of the highest resolutions from any phone. It has a 13MP rear camera and 2.1 front camera, with sensor for better image quality and also has a laser beam light when you need to take pictures in low-lit areas to help you focus. The G3 also comes packed with a 3000mAH battery so you should expect a few good hours on continuous use.
The Xperia Z3 is probably one of the most sought after phones this year with its water and dust proof features and splendid 20.7 MP camera. The front camera is 2.2MP so it’s also good enough for your video calls. The Z3 also has other new features, like ‘multi-camera’ which allows you to connect wirelessly to two other cameras and then you can take a picture from 3 different angles. Unfortunately, this feature only works with other Z3 or Z3 Compact smartphones.
It has a quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 processor and runs on the Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system and is LTE enabled. The Z3 has a 3100mAH battery.
The most interesting feature should be the gaming integration called PS4 Remote Play that the Z3 has. You can connect it to your PS4 and play games wirelessly from your Z3.
The HTC One M8 has a screen is a bigger 5 inch super LCD3 touchscreen, and has dimensions of 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm. For storage junkies, the smartphone has gives a choice of 16 or 32 GB but with an option to expand to 128 GB using a memory card.
It runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat version, has a Snapdragon 801 2.3 GHz quad-core chip and 2GB of RAM. The M8 has a 4MP rear camera with a dual-LED flash and also boasts a 5 MP front-facing camera instead of a 2.1 MP.
The HTC One M8 has a 2600 mAh battery so it will give you approximately 2-3 of continuous use.
The ‘2014 Flagship Killer’ could have been a phenomenon if it was commercialized. You could only get one of these babies if you had an invitation from a circle that existed on it’s company website. However, you can get one right now without an invite, but only for a limited period.
The biggest thing it as going for it is that it’s very cheap at $299! It has a 2.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 4G LTE connectivity, making it better than some of the more popular, more expensive brands out there.
It has a 5.5″ screen with 1080×1920 pixel resolution, a 3GB RAM and 16/64 GB internal memory (sorry, no microSD slot). The OnePlus One 13 MP camera, making it a rival for phones like the LG G3 which has the same pixels, and a 5MP front camera that’s perfect for selfies.
It also has a big engine under the hood, 3100mAH battery.
We’re sure prices have dropped slightly from when these were released so go ahead and get yourself one, or wait for what 2015 will bring.
