It’s finally here, the LG G3: Should your dump your G2 for it?
The LG G3 was released to the market yesterday but it will only begin rolling out today (28th May, 2014) to the USA and then the rest of the world in coming days. Here’s how it compares against its predecessor, the LG G2.
Processor: The LG G3 comes with a QuadHD Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage while the LG G2 has a Snapdragon 800 processor, which isn’t THAT much of a boost upwards. Yes, the 801 is faster than the 800 but it shouldn’t be the reason you need to upgrade. The storage in the LG G2 is also 2GB of RAM and 16/32 GB variants but with no microSd memory card slot. Both phones work with Android 4.4 Kitkat versions.
Screen: The LG G3 has a 5.5.inch against the G2’s 5.2inches. The bigger the better. You have more work area and the resolution is also impressive in the G3. It comes with a QHD screen, which is the highest resolution from any phone thus far. The G2 only has 1080 pixels which are not all that poor because you still get sharp images, so the screen is basically only a world of difference when you consider size.
Dimensions: The LG G3 and G2 are among the thinnest phones on the market (but the title of super-thin goes to the Huawei Ascend P7 right now). The G3 has dimensions of 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm while the G2 is 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm, making the G3 longer and wider but still as thin as the G2.
Camera: Both the G3 and G2 come with a 13MP rear camera and 2.1 front camera, but the G3 comes with a better sensor for better image quality and also has a laser beam light when you need to take pictures in low-lit areas to help you focus. It makes the G3 seem much cooler.
Battery: The LG G3 has a 3000mAH battery, just like the G2 but the difference is the G3 one is removable while the G2 never gets to see the light of day unless you take the phone apart. The battery size worries us though because with such a higher resolution you would expect LG to have made a bigger one.
Price range: For Zambia we should expect the LG G3 to cost above K5000 because of shipping and all. The LG G2 is currently going for around the K4500 price tag in some places.
Conclusion: Keep your G2. The upgrade with the size, screen resolution and camera tweaks in the LG G3 are slightly better than the LG G2 so no need to panick about getting it right away.
