BlackBerry Z3, Our Review

BlackBerry is still fighting to stay relevant and in Zambia it will for some time to come due to the fact that the internet subscription is very minimally priced and paid monthly on the BIS platform to the various mobile operators.

Due to this relevance, here is what we know about their latest BlackBerry Z3 smartphone, which seems like an upgrade from the BlackBerry Z10.

Display and screen resolution: The BlackBerry Z3 feels very textured in the back and has a smooth front glass screen. The screen itself is a 5 inch one with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels which is honestly just sad for such a large screen area. They could have increased it.

CPU: It runs on a 1.2 GHz Krait 200 Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and an operating system based on the BlackBerry 10 platform. It has 3G connectivity so it should be pretty fast here in Zambia, depending on your mobile operator.

Memory: The BlackBerry Z3 comes with 8Gb f internal storage of 8GB and 1.5GB RAM but you can add up to 32GB by inserting a memory card/microSD card, if you’re big on saving files and running many applications at the same time.

Camera: The rear camera comes in at 5Mp with an LED flash and is placed on the top left of the back of the phone. The front camera is a not-so-bad 1.1MP for your selfies and video calls, however it’s not going to give you crispy clear pictures as the rear camera will. Then again, just work with lighting  in your surroundings and almost any camera will produce good enough pictures.

Colour: For now all we have are black variants, but white could be a possibility.

Battery: It has a non-removable 2500 mAh battery which will last at least 3- 4 hours with minimal use but hey, it’s 2014, a smartphone should come with a smarter battery that lasts more than that! C’mon!

So who will buy the phone? 

It’s a low-budget phone ranging online between $250 and $350. We think it’s an attempt by BlackBerry at getting back its customers that migrated to Android and iOS platforms but it just is not as powerful enough as say, the Samsung Galaxy devices which are popular or the iPhone devices of recent years.

However it is a step up from the BlackBerry Z10 in terms of a better operating system and far much slicker looks.
