Microsoft rolls out Windows 10 for more Nokia Lumia devices
In March, Microsoft had rolled out Windows 10 for mobile to select devices, and now they have announced additional devices added to the update rollout from the Nokia Lumia series. If you own any of these Windows 8.1 devices you can now get the update:
- Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435,
- BLU Win HD w510u,
- BLU Win HD LTE x150q,
- and the MCJ Madosma Q501 devices
It looks like Microsoft is not just paying attention to the new but has also catered to the old, with previous versions of its devices getting updated too.
Windows 10 mobile OS update has taken some time to be released for Nokia Lumia devices, being canceled 3 times in the past, restricting the OS to only the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550 and Lumia 650.
Microsoft has explained why only selected devices got the update in a blog, saying:
“This list includes a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices and does not include some devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program. As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience.”
Other users of devices like the Lumia 520, Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1320 were angry for not getting an update so this should be great news for them. Click here to see how to update your phone. Updates to more Windows devices are expected throughout the year.
