Instagram Launches Family Center Supervision Tools for Parents & Guardians
Instagram has launched its Family Center, where parents and guardians can access supervision tools and resources from experts to help them make the Instagram experience safer and more appropriate for children. Instagram announced this on its blog:
This is the first step in a longer term journey to develop intuitive supervision tools, informed by experts, teens and parents. Our vision for Family Center is to eventually allow parents and guardians to help their teens manage experiences across Meta technologies, all from one central place.
Parents will be able to manage their children’s accounts suing Meta technologies, set up these supervision tools and use them, as well as communicate better internet usage with their children. the tools available are:
-
View how much time their teens spend on Instagram and set time limits.
-
Be notified when their teen shares they’ve reported someone.
-
View and receive updates on what accounts their teens follow and the accounts that follow their teens.
Learn more about how to set up supervision on Instagram. Keep in mind this applies to teens as Meta products have a minimum age usage of 13.
This also includes an education hub that has resources for parents to get expert content on how to discuss social media with teens. It was co-developed with Connect Safely and Net Family News. Instagram says it will continue to add more content to the hub.
