Instagram adds ‘Focus’ feature in-app

Instagram has introduced a new ‘Focus’ feature in the in-app camera. It can be used in both the rear and front-facing camera. Once you aim the camera at yourself/an object/another person and click on the Focus tool, you’ll see that the main item will be highly clarified while the background blurs.

You can do this for both pictures and videos, and can add filters, stickers and text before posting them.

Instagram has said that Focus is available on iPhone SE, 6S, 6S+, 7, 7+, 8, 8+ and X and select Android devices. This update is available as part of Instagram version 39.0 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in Google Play.

Instagram is also rolling out Mentions, which allows you to mention another user in your Story. Once you type ‘@’ some options will be auto-suggested according to the name you’re typing and you can choose the one you want from there. You can then rotate, scale and place your sticker wherever you’d like.

  • Cool features, especially the focus. It kinda adds a “variety” to the tilt shift edit…
