Huawei Futuristic Technologies Wows PS
Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Joseph Akafumba says that Government is in a hurry to actualize its 2030 Vision to digitize Zambia and that fast-paced technology is what is needed. The PS explained during the just ended 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona Spain, that the congress had made an excellent impression, adding that Zambia does not want to lag behind.
“It’s a fact we need to acknowledge that the world is moving at a very fast rate in terms of innovation and technology. Having in mind vision 2030, Zambia as a country does not wish to remain behind. We are able to tap into these technologies and improve our country” Akafumba said.
Mr. Akafumba said enhancing technology for Zambia will mean result to increased production in many things and also reduced costs. He explained that every country in the world need technology to improve and that Zambians must have the means not only to communicate but to communicate faster. The PS added that the current government looks beyond digitalizing ministry departments but has a mammoth task to go digital in terms of having electronic national identity cards (NRC’s), improve technology for immigrations and the police services.
“And from what we have seen here at the MWC, and not what we have been told, Huawei has a solution and they have the capacity and with partners like them, we can be able to clear most issues. We are not only implementing the roll out of digital ID’s but we also want to explore the possibility of having electronic passports. Physical application will be an issue of the past. This visit has been a plus and an eye opener” Mr. Akafumba said.
The PS explained that the Government had set up benchmarks and they know the destination but partners like Huawei knows the way and how to harness technology.
Speaking during the same event, Police Deputy Inspector General Milner Muyambango said the Police has a lot to benefit from advanced technologies exhibited during the MWC. He revealed that the Police service needs faster communication to be able to respond to rampart crimes.
“The greatest issue that or agent matter that we want to tackle through faster communication and improved technology is the issue of cyber–crime. This we are really in a hurry. We wish it’s like yesterday that we could do tap in all this technology, because this crime is widely spreading in our country. Talk of money scams, hate speeches. So with the technology that huawei has, I think we will be able to tackle some of these crimes. so We are really, very eager to have this technology transferred to us” Mr. Muyambango said.
MWC is a technology showpiece that attracts leading ICT Partners among them Huawei showcasing its latest products and solutions.
