Happy Safer Internet Day 2016!

sid1692

Every February, Insafe celebrates Safer Internet Day (SID) to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.

Insafe is a European network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs) but Safer Internet Day is a series of activities towards advocating for safer internet in countries all over the world. Countries and/or organizations can be a part of it by registering with Insafe and then sharing what kind of activities they have planned to promote safer internet practices and make the best use of internet technology in their respective regions.

There are currently no activities towards this in Zambia as seen from their website but organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate:

The topics addressed range from cyberbullying to social networking, in line with Safer Internet Day’s aim to raise awareness of emerging online issues and chooses a topic reflecting current concerns. For SID 2016, the focus of the day is “Play your part for a better internet”, reflecting the fact that we all have a role to play:

You can also follow #SaferInternetDay on Twitter to see the conversations around the activities going on today across the world!
