Facebook And Instagram Outage Was Global

facebook_hacked2

Earlier today around 8 hours Facebook and Instagram were down for everyone, but it wasn’t just Zambia alone, the issue was global.

Facebook has denied claims that it was hacked but aside from it and Instagram, other apps like AOL Instant Messenger, Tinder, AIM and Hipchat were down as well at the same time. Other people were even denied access to other accounts that required Facebook to login into them.

The infamous hackers group Lizard Squad claimed to have hacked the sites, a claim denied by a Facebook spokesman who said, “Earlier today many people had trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100 per cent for everyone.”

The Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for the outage by posting the following on their Twitter  page. They had previously claimed responsibility for hacking Sony and XBox late last year.

Just yesterday Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for hacking the Malaysian Airlines website, where a message stating ‘ISIS will prevail’ was seen.

Are we safe? Despite the claims by Facebook saying the issue was technical and then on the other hand Lizard Squad claiming they hacked the sites have us feeling uneasy about the security measure that the hacked sites have.
