DStv prices have been hiked in SA. Could Zambia be next?
MultiChoice in South Africa has just announced an increase in its DStv bouquet prices for 2016 and these are shown below compared to their 2015 rates as compiled by MyBroadband:
DStv packages | 2015 price | 2016 price |
---|---|---|
Premium | R699 | R759 |
Extra | R425 | R459 |
Compact | R319 | R345 |
Family | R199 | R219 |
Select | R199 | R219 |
Access | R99 | R99 |
EasyView | R39 | R29 |
M-Net Analogue/CSN* | R335 | R369 |
The Multichoice Zambia office has said they have no price increment scheduled for now.
However, DStv prices do have an annual adjustment, and Zambia could eventually go through one so we’re waiting for when, and not if, it will happen. Last year DStv bouquets were increased by 33% in Zambia that was effective on the 8th of November 2015 due to the effects of the fluctuating foreign exchange rates.
The increase in pricing has been attributed to the weakening of the Rand against the Dollar, and MultiChoice (SA) says “We buy most of [our] content in foreign currency, and due to the depreciation of the rand by 29% since April 2015, our costs have gone up dramatically. Over the past five years our adjustments have been in line with inflation. We’ve worked really hard to keep this year’s fees manageable.”
The new DStv price changes for South Africans subscribers will kick in on 1st April, 2016.
Will Zambia go through another upward adjustment so soon? We all have to wait on an official announcement for now…
Hi,
Can you do a comparison of the Zambia DSTV Rates Vs S.A and any other countries in the region or West Africa.
It would be good to see how we fare against other countries.
And if possible in a common currency. either Rand or dollar or ZMK
