DStv adds Marvel Movies and SuperSport pop-up channels
From Friday, 13 April to Sunday, 22 April DStv Premium customers will have access to 15 blockbuster movies on the M-Net Movies Marvel Studios Pop-Up Channel 109. The channel will run from 06:00hrs to 00:00hrs daily. Movies with overlapping storylines will be screened in chronological order (according to how the films were released in cinema). The channel will launch with with 2008’s Iron Man, up until Spiderman: Homecoming, which closes the channel on Sunday 22, April.
“This channel is a special treat for the legions of Marvel fans—both old and new—who have enjoyed the live-action exploits of favourite Marvel Superheroes in films that express the unique vision and creativity of their filmmakers, and deliver thrilling action and visual spectacles with relatable characters,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard.
“The timing of our M-Net Movies Marvels Studios Pop-Up Channel is also absolutely perfect with the franchise currently creating an incredible buzz worldwide” The recent release of Black Panther movie became the biggest film of all time in East, West and South Africa, showing that Marvel Studios is at the forefront of the comic-book-turned-action-pop-culture phenomenon.
While the M-Net Movies Marvel Pop-Up channel will give DStv viewers the opportunity to enjoy more gems of the franchise, which has been ten years in the making, it also serves as a lead-up to the much-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War which hits cinemas this year, with the world premiere set for 23 April 2018.
On top of the 15 feature films there will also be programming linked to the behind the scenes of the movies, such as: United We Stand, Divided We Fall; The Making of Captain America: Civil War; Guide to The Galaxy with James Gunn and more.
These include: Marvel 75 Years From Pulp to Pop; From Asgard To Earth (Thor); Marvel’s Captain America: 75 Heroic Years; Ultimate Iron Man: The Making of Iron Man 2 Rebuilding the Suit; Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe just to mention a few!

As football fans count down to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, DStv and GOtv have set up a dedicated 24-hr History of Football pop-up channel in association with A+E Networks International from 28th May 2018 for DStv Premium, Compact+ and Compact customers for 14 days of premium documentary series, short form specials and a selection of FIFA World Cup films.
The World Cup dedicated pop-up channel, SuperSport 14 (SS14), will go live on all DStv packages 2 months ahead of the tournament on April 18 with content including legacy footage, highlights, documentaries, FIFA films, classic matches and interviews.
Multichoice has said in a statement that:
“From Wednesday 25 April, GOtv customers on the GOtv Max and GOtv Plus packages will also be treated to the pop-up channel which will also feature exclusive and rare archive footage of football’s best moments and matches on channel 36 (Ghana: channel 136; Uganda: channel 336).
The pop-up channels on DStv and GOtv will also feature warm-up matches to get fans fired up for the kick-off beginning in mid-June. Thereafter, all 64 World Cup matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be available on all DStv packages as well as on the GOtv Max and Plus packages, while GOtv Value customers can view a total of 56 World Cup games. GOtv Lite customers can also enjoy a select number of fixtures available on free-to-air channels. Viewers can also tune in to Maximo 1, Maximo 2 and Maximo 360 for Portuguese-language coverage. Leading the challenge for Africa will be Team Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.”
