Techtrends: Why should more girls take up technology or ICT-related subjects?

Harriet: Technology and ICT related subjects should be taken by many, if not all girls as whatever career or business they intend to venture into when they leave school is impacted by technology. Name it, farming, medicine, education, social sciences, technology and ICT empowers girls and women to improve their productivity and continue learning about their chosen career and making a positive contribution to the world.

Techtrends: What can Zambia do to help them get to where they want to be in their careers?

Harriet: Every school, community center, girls club should have an ICT area that allows girls to use and research topics they are interested in. ICT has become affordable with mobile technology and cheaper laptops and PCs. Girls can be trained to look after and repair this equipment which will lower each center’s maintenance costs.
