Celebrating #GirlsInICT: Brendah Bukowa – currently a lecturer at the University of Zambia Teaching Digital Journalism. She is a PhD fellow at UKZN in Durban, has a Doctorate in Children and Participatory Culture online basically explained in simpler terms as “investigating how Children experience Social media in Zambia”. She also has a Masters Degree from the University of Oslo, Norway where she studied “Freedom of Expression Online in Zambia”.
She is passionate about training and research around issues around communication and the internet and has held several training sessions for practitioners and student journalists, and people interested in technology and communications. She has a lot of research which she has presented at conferences and workshops around the same topic, and which has been published in both local and International platforms.
She says: “More girls must take up Technology and ICT related subjects because technology is the future and a FUTURE without the participation of the girl child is doomed. Technology related topics have for long been considered male dominated but we girls can too make a meaningful contribution. in an era where everything that we do is centered on technology, we too should rise above the ladder and be key players in the Industry. I look forward to a time when women and girls can take up ICT and Technology research for the betterment of Zambia. GIRLS are STRONG, we too can make IT!
Zambia can help our women to attain their career goals by investing in them. we need to look at women as equals and creat an environment to show case their talents and skills.”
