Apple App Store developers earned over $70 billion since 2008
Since the App store launched in 2008 developers making apps for it have earned over $70 billion, Apple has shared, adding that over the past year downloads have increased by 70%.
The main apps that users download are gaming, entertainment and fitness apps and Apple cited top apps like Super Mario Run, Pokémon GO, CancerAid, SPACE by THIX, Zones for Training with Exercise Intensity, Vanido and Ace Tennis. Photo and vidoe apps have also been the most downloaded apps at 90% growth.
“People everywhere love apps and our customers are downloading them in record numbers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Seventy billion dollars earned by developers is simply mind-blowing. We are amazed at all of the great new apps our developers create and can’t wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference.”
Apple included a paid subscription service for developers in the App Store for services like Netflix, Hulu and Tastemade which has seen a 58% growth year on year.
