Airtel Zambia donates mattresses to Lewanika General Hospital
Western Province Ps Mr. Lyamba Mwaangala receiving the donation from Airtel Zambia’s Territory Sales Manager Mr. Brian Banda
Airtel Networks Zambia Plc as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) has made a donation of 10 maternity ward mattresses to Lewanika General Hospital located in Mongu District in the Western Province.
At the handover event of the mattresses, Mayimbo Kalengo, who is Airtel Zonal Business Manager said (in a speech read on his behalf by Airtel Territory Sales Manager Brian Banda) that the company is committed to changing the lives of the people in the local communities through its CSR initiatives. This was done in an effort to meet a need that the hospital had. “We realize that as Zambia’s leading Telecommunications Company in corporate Social responsibility, we have a bigger responsibility to impact more lives in the communities we operate. We will also continue to introduce products and services that are innovative and relevant to our many customers across the country.
We are here today to re-affirm our commitment to improving the child birth experience for the women of Mongu and outlying areas that are referred to the hospital for child birth. We pray that this donation will help alleviate some of the challenges that the general hospital is currently facing especially with the increase in the number of patients wanting to access the hospital services.”
Receiving the donation on behalf of Government, Western Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Lyamba Mwaangala said the donation by Airtel had come at a time when the hospital was undergoing an expansion programme to cater for more patients. “Western province as a whole has benefited a lot from Airtel’s investment in the local community and I would like to urge other companies to emulate them by sharing their profits through community investments. I am also pleased to mention that this is not the first time that Airtel has invested in changing the lives of the people in western Province as the company not too long ago adopted the Lukalanya School where a 1×3 classroom block was built and educational materials worth thousands of kwacha were also donated.”
We love to see the mobile operators give back to communities, we cannot even call them out about it. Airtel also recently donated shoes to a school as another CSR initiative so we hope they keep up with the work they’re doing, elevating their clients to a better position than they first found them.
