Airtel Zambia donates computers to Jacaranda Hub

In a bid to continue supplementing Government efforts in the promotion of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in schools and communities in Zambia, Airtel Networks Zambia Plc. has donated five desktop computers and a router valued at over K55, 000 to Jacaranda Hub, a non-profit organisation which aims to promote the development of the ICT sector and entrepreneurship among the youth in Zambia.

In handing over the computers to the hub, Airtel Networks Zambia Plc Legal and Regulatory Director, Mrs. Susan Mulikita said the donation was in line with the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative aimed at enhancing ICT education in communities especially for the less privileged.

“Airtel believes that in our small way we can help Government’s efforts to scale up e-learning in the communities we live in and our partnership with Jacaranda Hub is one of those strategic alliances aimed to do just that as they are based at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) where hundreds of sporting youth have their various games,” Mrs. Mulikita said.

Mrs. Mulikita added that Airtel believed in the Smart Zambia Initiative whose vision aims to attain a transformational culture by 2064 by embracing innovation, entrepreneurship as well as technology to simplify and quicken provision of services.

Jacaranda Hub Country Director, Ms. Mara Michelo who received the computers on behalf of her organisation and was visibly elated by the gesture said the donation would go a long way in the vision of promoting the participation of young people and girls’ participation in science based innovations.

“We are indeed so grateful to Airtel Networks Zambia Plc for this generous gesture which will enable the youth to access information communication technologies in a safe secure place,” Ms. Michelo said. “ Our main agenda for the hub is to provide a conduit of resources and programs delivered through it and partners, targeted at improving the Startup/ MSME landscape, the use of ICT to create new innovations, creation of innovative institutionalized skills facilities tailored to meet the needs of MSMEs, promotion use of appropriate technology and of available local resources as well as promoting the upgrading of skills through formalized training programs all aimed at improving people’s lives, businesses and public services which result in socio-economic impact and commercial growth driven by young people across Zambia.”
