Airtel Networks Zambia Plc has pumped in K150, 000 into this year’s Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia annual awards making the company the main sponsor of the event scheduled for April 29th, 2016.
Speaking at a joint Press Briefing this morning held at the Airtel Zambia Head Office, Head of Corporate Communications and Government Relations, Mrs. Yuyo Nachali – Kambikambi said it was an honour for her company to partner with MISA Zambia.
Mrs. Kambikambi who was speaking on behalf of the Airtel Zambia Managing Director, Mr. Peter Correia said being in the telecommunications sector and as part of ICT, Airtel believes that the media continues to play a vital role of information dissemination for socio-economic development. Mrs. Kambikambi said
“Last year, in our bid to encourage, promote and recognise excellence in Zambian journalism regarding Information Communication Technology, we hosted our first ever Airtel Media Excellence Awards. But with this injection into the MISA Awards, we have had to shelve our awards for this year. We are still having discussions with MISA Zambia in terms of way forward for both events, and you will be informed in due course once discussions are concluded. But you will be happy to know that one of the discussions on the table is on having two training sessions for the media in conjunction with MISA Zambia.”
MISA Zambia Board Chairman Ms. Hellen Zulu who was on hand to receive the K150, 000 cheque said she was grateful to Airtel for the support they had rendered for this year’s awards and hoped that the partnership would be cemented for the years to come.
“We are excited with this partnership and this goes to show that Airtel has always had the media at heart. And like Mrs. Kambikambi rightly said earlier, every relationship has problems from time to time and therefore we know that companies may differ with the media sometimes but this injection into the awards is a true testimony of Airtel’s commitment to their relationship with us in the media,” Ms. Zulu said.
