Airtel turns Blue to Commemorate World Children’s Day

Airtel Networks Zambia Plc, in partnership with UNICEF and Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) yesterday turned ‘blue’ to commemorate World Children’s Day whose theme this year is ‘Inclusion, for every Child’.
The Company turned its logo blue for the day and welcomed 13 children from two community schools, Ngombe open Community and Rosamistica Open Community school based in Matero.
The 13 children accompanied by their schoolteachers had an exciting experience to be the sitting ‘Directors’ of Airtel for the day, with them calling the shots and asking questions to the Directors. Ten-year-old Luyando Mwitelela had the opportunity of being the Managing Director for the day with Airtel’s Managing Director, Manu Sood showing her around his office before asking her to take her seat while he sat in the visitor’s chair.
Zambia Open Community Schools Research and Advocacy Manager, Petronella Sibeene who also accompanied the children to Airtel, said she was delighted to be part of such a fun but meaningful day for the children.
“This may look like a very small gesture, but to us and the children, this is a chance in a lifetime to be able to mingle with the Directors and staff of Airtel who stopped their work for more than two hours just to cater to the needs of the children. On behalf of the children, I would like to say thank you for according them this opportunity,” Sibeene said.
Airtel’s Managing Director, Manu Sood said it was a pleasure for his company to host the two community schools and hoped that the children were going away with a lot of lessons learnt and stories to tell their parents.
“We take a keen interest in the future of the Zambian child hence partnering with UNICEF and the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) to create an opportunity for the children to experience a day at Airtel Head office with our Executive Directors and a selection of Mentors. It was an awesome day for both us and the children,” Sood said.
Adding: “We firmly believe that access to education is the key to addressing inequality in life opportunities for children and this is why access to education is one of the key drivers of our sustainability strategy with our partnership with UNICEF being a part of the key commitment to ensure that children will be able to access free digital learning resources.
