Huawei to continue receiving Android updates for next 90 days

There’s been a slight reverse on the cancellation of Android on Huawei devices: Google says the manufacturer will still get software updates for the next 90 days. A report by XDA Developers has shared that ‘ the blacklisting also prohibits Huawei and Honor from sending out newer updates to their smartphones, and if it does, it will be forced to remove Google Play Services and Google apps from the existing devices too.’

Huawei itself has now openly stated that it believes the US is bullying the company, as Google itself does not want to cut ties.

“They (Google) have zero motivation to block us. We are working closely with Google to find out how Huawei can handle the situation and the impact from the U.S. Department of Commerce decision,” Abraham Liu, Huawei’s representative to the EU institutions told Reuters. “Huawei is becoming the victim of the bullying by the U.S. administration. This is not just an attack against Huawei. It is an attack on the liberal, rules-based order.”

My last article on this issue explained that Huawei has been banned in the USA in an executive order signed by President Donald Trump alleging possible espionage by the tech firm and companies like Google have had to cut off business, in this case its Android platform.

Huawei clearly has no grudge against Google, and this story just seems to be growing bigger by the day. I’ll keep you updated.
