The decline in sales of tablets is a hard pill to swallow

In 2010 Apple released its first iPad, and other phone makers followed suit with the production of tablets, leading to a global tablet boom. Hell, I saw people switch to using smaller tablets (phablets) as their primary cellphone. It really looked like this:
Statista has now shared that tablets are becoming less popular around the world. Q3 2018 marked the 16th consecutive quarter of declining tablet shipments, during which shipments dropped by 35% from 55.7 million in Q3 2014 to 36.4 million units in Q3 2018.
IDC has shared data on tablet sales from the big global tech companies:
