Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are dominating 2018’s social media usage

Statista has just released some figures showing that Facebook and its sister companies Instagram and WhatsApp are dominating social media usage right now. Screw the data scandal with Facebook.

Yes we love Twitter and all but it’s been really hard for the social media platfrom to attract that many new users to make a mark digitally.  Statista confirms this by sharing that ‘after explosive growth in the first years of its existence, Twitter’s growth slowed down significantly once the company had reached 300 million users. Since hitting 302 million monthly active users in Q1 2015, Twitter added just 33 million users in more than three years.’

Shame.

Snapchat is (an app that personally I see mostly used by Zambians in the diaspora but is) also struggling as it garners 15 million daily active users, with a total of 188 million users.

Facebook, as a social media platform and as the owners of Instagram and WhatsApp saw a rise in users over the past year, the numbers on each platform (including Facebook Messenger) even being more than the entire Snapchat community.

Damn.
