Airtel Networks Zambia Plc. has handed over a borehole worth K35, 000 to Mngoza School based in Petauke.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Mngoza school and officiated by the area District Commissioner, Airtel Eastern province Zonal Business Manager Eddie Banda said:

“As the leading mobile service provider in Corporate Social Responsibility, Airtel understands the importance of providing clean drinking water to our communities more especially the schools and this is the reason why we are here today to hand over a borehole to not only the School but the community at large knowing that they too will benefit from this borehole.

We know that organisations today are required to help society in different ways but also be able to give back to society in a sustainable way. Water is life and if we can contribute in a small way by providing water to a school and the community at large then we happy.”

Mr. Banda said for many years, the people of Mngoza Community had been facing challenges with accessing drinking water, as the borehole that had been in existence then was old and rusty and eventually had to be decommissioned.

Petauke District Commissioner Mrs. Velelas Banda Moyo said she was excited to be part of a historic event where the private sector was coming to the aid of the community in which they operated.

“I would like to re-affirm that the Government of the Republic of Zambia, through my office is particularly happy with the contribution and investment that co-operating partners such as Airtel Networks Zambia is making in supplementing government’s efforts in providing clean water for the vulnerable communities thereby changing lives.”

“We are happy that Airtel has come to the aid of the people of Petauke to sink this borehole that will provide water not just to the school but the surrounding community which also draws their water from here. The commissioning of this borehole will indeed help prevent diseases that arise to due lack of safe clean water.” Mrs. Banda added.
