IHS Holding Limited (“IHS”), the largest mobile telecommunications infrastructure provider in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, is proud to co-sponsor a new school library for the Kamanga Primary School in Lusaka, through its Zambian subsidiary IHS Zambia Limited, along with the Lions Club of Munali.

The library launch and ribbon cutting ceremony will occur today and will be attended by the Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary, Mr. Chishimba Nkoshya, who will be representing the Minister of General Education, the Honorable John Phiri, the Director General of the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority, Mrs. Margaret Chalwe-Mudenda, as well as other officials from the Ministry of Communications.

The Kamanga Primary School was built in 1994, is run by 59 staff members and serves over 2,000 pupils in 20 classrooms. IHS Zambia, which operates various towers in the area and provides 3G and internet access to the region, worked to secure a 40-foot freight container to house the library on the school grounds. IHS has customised the interior of the 40-foot container with bespoke shelving and the Lions Club of Munali have supplied over 1,000 books which were suggested by the Zambian education authority.

IHS Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer William Saad said:

“This is a fantastic project which we’re thrilled to support. IHS is committed to supporting the local communities in which we operate, promoting education and driving sustainable development initiatives. Our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility underpins the way in which we do business and our programmes focus on people, education, business ethics and the environment, for the betterment of our communities and employees.”

IHS Zambia was incorporated into the IHS portfolio in December 2013, and has since acquired towers from MTN Zambia and Airtel Zambia. Today, IHS Zambia is the market leading tower company in Zambia managing over 1,966 towers throughout the country. IHS Zambia directly and indirectly employs approximately 1,100 Zambians across its in-country operations.

Over the next two years, IHS is working to become almost diesel neutral across its Zambia portfolio, using a combination of on- and off-grid solutions, and continues to roll out new green energy solution systems.
