Google Plus gets an update

Yesterday Google announced changed to its Google Plus platform that now has a much easier to navigate interface and has also been built for better user experience on mobile devices.

On its official blog Google wrote “We’re starting to introduce a fully redesigned Google+ that puts Communities and Collections front and center. Now focused around interests, the new Google+ is much simpler. And it’s more mobile-friendly—we’ve rebuilt it across web, Android and iOS so that you’ll have a fast and consistent experience whether you are on a big screen or small one.”

They have rolled out this update as a response to what Googlers were saying about the platform, on how their user experience is. Google has added some new features recently such as Collections (which lets users post updates by topic) and Communities (which lets users connect to others through shared interests/passions) and these are now one of the top tabs in Google Plus. With Communities you have recommendations of groups to join if you’re a little lost.

Communities is doing pretty well with over 1.2 million joins per day while Collections which is only 5 months old is also escalating in usage.
