Yes, your Instagram app, if you updated it, looks a little different and that’s because it is.

At the bottom of every photo you shared on Instagram you would see a heart and a chat bubble, which allowed you to ‘like’ and ‘comment’ on that picture respectively.

The new update comes with another icon in addition to the heart and chat bubble which is an arrow pointing forward. This little arrow allows you to send the photo you’re looking at to another user you follow as a direct message via Instagram Direct.

You can choose which user(s) you want to send a photo from your timeline with

Instagram Direct was added to the app to allow users send pictures or videos to other users, sort of like a private chat, and you could add more than 1 person to the photo-conversation.

The new update also combines sent to the same person/people as threads: Screenshot_2015-09-03-12-33

Instagram wrote on its blog, “Instead of creating a new conversation every time you send a photo or video, your threads are based on the people in them and your moments flow along naturally. We’ve also added the ability to name your groups, a quick camera feature to respond with a selfie on the fly, and larger-than-life emoji for when there are just no words.”

You can get the latest Instagram update from the App store here and from the Google Play Store here.
