M-Net and Multichoice launch dedicated Star Wars Channel on DStv
M-Net Movies and MultiChoice have added a new pop up channel featuring all 6 Star Wars movies ever made. Starting from 31st August up until 13th September, 2015 any subscriber on DStv Premium will be able to watch these on M-Net Movies channel 109.
This will add on to the existing 9 channels in the M-Net Movies channels and is the first events channel that has ever been created in Africa specifically for international movies.
For all Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi fans, this should be awesome news because the channel will not only show the Star Wars movies, but also any other programming that is linked to the franchise.
Starting on 32st August, one movie will be shown each day of the week in order of release at 08:00hrs and repeated at 21:00hrs local time on the same day, then all the movies shown that entire week will play on Sunday all day, for those who may miss the movies during the week.
Ngoza Matakala, MultiChoice Zambia Acting General Manager, said “This is a great coup for us. Creating a movie channel dedicated to Star Wars is an initiative that Star Wars fans will enjoy, but we also hope to introduce this iconic programming to a new audience. Pop-up television channels are currently all the rage worldwide and our M-Net Movies Star Wars channel once again shows that we continue to align ourselves with the hottest trends and biggest brands whilst embracing the future of visual entertainment.”
With this M-Net Movies Pop-Up channel fans will be able to enjoy all their favourite Star Wars battles, plots and characters before the cinematic release of the brand-new Star Wars film later this year.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is due for release by the Walt Disney Company in December 2015.
Christine Service, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for The Walt Disney Company Africa added on saying “We are thrilled to be bringing Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, to audiences in this first-for-Africa television event with DStv. This is a perfect opportunity for families to experience some of the world’s most unforgettable characters and stories to screens across the continent.”
