Is Samsung dumping Google’s Android for Tizen?

Samsung is saying that they are trying to drift away from Android and move on to another one called Tizen.  According to the Tizen website,

“Tizen is an open and flexible operating system built from the ground up to address the needs of all stakeholders of the mobile and connected device ecosystem, including device manufacturers, mobile operators, application developers and independent software vendors (ISVs). Tizen is developed by a community of developers, under open source governance, and is open to all members who wish to participate.”

Samsung has used Android on almost it’s previous devices and now they have released the first Tizen operated smartphone called the Samsung Z, a TV that connects to Tizen and even Tizen powered cameras.

The whole point of the Tizen platform is to create an operating system that can run on almost anything, not just mobile devices so we’re talking home appliances, cars and all. Right now Tizen is open to developers and still being worked on by Samsung in partnership with Intel  to ensure it performs its best so if you’re a developer in Zambia take hold of this chance and fight your way in. You could be a part of the developing team!

The platform has been developing over the past 3 years and is supposed to become an alternative to Google’s Android operating system. Tizen is already running on some Gear devices from Samsung so its definitely going to become the next big thing but for now there are still a few hiccups like how there are no major apps like Facebook and Whatsapp linked to the operating system and there are still glitches with the hardware and software.

So for all the Samsung lovers you might just as well start preparing to switch from Android to Tizen platforms in the coming years.
